Ohrid Lake

About Ohrid

Ohrid lake is located in the southwestern part of Macedonia, resting in the foothills of the beautiful mountain Galichica. It is one of Europe’s deepest and oldest lakes, with breathtaking views and crystal clear waters. UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site in 1979 and furthermore extended it to include the cultural and historic area of the Town of Ohrid. The lake is partly shared with Albania where it holds a Nature Reserve status and it’s a part of the Galichica National Park in Macedonia. It is home to more than 200 endemic species and over the year it has built a unique aquatic ecosystem of a worldwide importance.
